wow.. so simple … yet so hard to do.. especially with adults.

i think we love the sound of our own voices so much – that we rarely take time to listen to what others have to say.. and especially while during conflicts..

i should’ve attended montessori training – instead of PMP :P

Huney, I hope we will be able to find a time to sit together to share tips on bringing up children in this world where adults create all the havoc. I hope too to learn to raise my kids to be better peace loving and responsible adults later. I pray you complete this course and build your own school.. I’d like to join in.. to do the enviroment bit hehehe :-P . Take care..

I totally agree with yr last statement. I wish I have time to do research on a social emotional module for young kids. If I do have time I would have to look at a social skills module for kids with asperger syndrome though.

You have immersed yrself in montessori education. Have you checked out the Reggio Emilia approach?

    INa: Insya’Allah…

atenah: I read a book on RE – the only book I found here on the approach. There are many similarities, but the main thing that makes it distinctly workable is community-involvement (since the ‘curriculum’ is formulated by a whole town if I’m not mistaken…). I was told if one wanted to truly understand what the RE approach is like, it’s better to go to RE and observe the school itself. What have u found?

On asperger syndrome, my lecturer mentioned that she spent some time in a ‘montessori therapy’ school working with children with asperger and down syndrome during her studies. If there’s anything you’d like me to ask her, I’d be happy to pass on the question…

Reading this inspired me to create a “Peace Table” at home. So, I bought a japanese table and isolate a “Peace” area. We had one major conflict, and I told him we’ll sit down in the peace area and talk about it. I didn’t have a flower so I grabbed the closes thing available – spiderman ball. The taking turns didn’t quite work as I wanted to be, but what it did was to allow me to calm down and listen to him. So as much as this is about teaching the child about resolving conflict, it also helps me to manage my temper.

But, I don’t think he understand what peace is all about at 4 yrs old but better start young, right? I told him Spiderman works as peacekeeper. If he wants to be Spiderman, he has to be peacekeeper too.
